Things have changed and changed quickly plus today there is so much competition and the big competitors make life difficult because they are so expert at mass marketing and can drive prices lower because of their large client bases. The 'little guy' has to become mass market literate and market their uniqueness on a large scale. Attending chamber meetings and the Lions Club will no longer guarantee a flow of business. That Lions member friend may be buying on line from someone across the country and you never know. Today takes more focused and continuous Internet marketing for most small businesses and salespeople who sell many services. I have learned to market via the Internet and you can to--it just takes time and commitment. One of the ways I market myself is youtube magic. Here is my lastest posting.

EFT for Commissioned Sales People

This is another tool to help create confidence and to focus on the goals you want to achieve. You get the opportunity to meet people and to present your ideas. Every service club is actively seeking speakers. They want you to talk ! There are really only a couple of rules to follow (1) be on time and do not speak longer than agreed and (2) don't bore the audience..So, develop a talk that you are excited about and go out and speak.

100 Sales Tips from Sales Magic

The good thing about the bad economic times is that so many of us had to dig down deep and bring back all of the basics to survive. These will be things the sales person can implement immediately and with some effort the sales person will soon be on a success path.

The first post was yesterday and it is titled STP...or See Twenty People Belly to Belly every day. This store is frequented by all the stars of magic, including the giants in the industry; Burton, Copperfield, Chris Angel...the list is long.

The store is filled with pictures of the greats and want to be greats. Most are autographed with a personal message to Joe. As Joe talks about each picture he will comment, "He is my friend." I bet I have heard Joe say, "He is my friend" more than 500 times. Think about what a powerful affirmation that is.

Friends help friends and if it is true that we get what we focus on...then, "He is my friend." is one of the most powerful affirmations. Imagine opening the computer and the news pops up. There before you is a political person that you don't like or disagree with. Why not think, "He is my Friend." Instead of a body feeling of tension and anxiety, there is a feeling of relief. Perhaps, there can be a feeling of joy.

Thinking about your clients or co-workers or those involved in the transaction that you are doing, simply think of every one as your friend will make the day go better. It will probably make the transaction go better.

Joe Girard (listed as the world's greatest salesperson) used to send out cards to his clients that simply stated, "I like you." This is the same idea. Use it and see how much your sales can increase and how much happier you will be.

By the way, You are my friend and I like you.

Doug Jones
(408) 209-6773 cell

My Mantra- I help People

We all wear many hats and sometimes it seems to me that the hats we wear are in conflict with each other. Each time it gets better and better but I learned about over preparing at my last talk.

The talk was to a Realtor marketing group in the Silver Creek area of San Jose. During the talk I had an audience member choose numbers at random. Eventually there are 5 rows of 6 digit numbers. Then I have a person add the numbers-the magic is after the second set of numbers are written down I already present the answer.

I had given the talk three times with no problems but for some reason I could not explain to the Realtor group how to add the numbers. It was not them or because they are Realtors; it was that I was unclear in my explanation.

So, I will be giving this talk to the National Association of Business Economist next month and I will take a simple calculator with me and explain to a participant exactly what I want them to do. That way there will be no glich and no problem.

I have learned: Don’t practice until you get it right. Every musical and political historian recognize Paderwski as a major world figure for his endeavors.

While Paderski was Prime Minister he insisted that he be given two hours each day to practice his scales on the piano. Nobody ever pays to hear even the greatest musician play scales but they are the basics of music. They are the basics and this man had the discipline to continue to practice even while he was achieving so much for his country.

In sales the basic basics are contacting prospects everyday and knowing your product at the expert level. It takes discipline to continue everyday to make contacts when things are not going well. Even the great sales people have days off. This is when discipline is needed. Determine to do the basics everyday- develop the discipline by simply knowing that you were born to achieve. you were born to win.

Attitude is More than Everything

I am not sure if it is possible to be "more than everything" but in sports we always hear about giving 110%. If that statement is true then, attitude is more than everything when it comes to sales and success.

The thing that we must remember is that we cannot turn attitude off. Our mind is always creating and our attitude is the road or path that leads the way to what we create. We can't do affirmations and get excited and then feel the fear in our stomach when a challenge comes along.

Give thanks for the challenge. Praise the challenge. In the Bible it says, "Let there be Light.." We cannot affirm that there be light or success or anything without something to contrast that light or success against. The Light came out of the darkness. Our success and many times our greatest successes come from our failures. The best attitudes are attitudes of "can do, will do, and gratitude" (I like that, just made it up as I am writing !)

For most of us; Success means WORK

So many will never reach their potential because they are not willing to do the work required. Success means work. Mark Twain was to have said, "Tell me what you want and I will tell you how to get it. The problem is, most people don't know what they want."

I looked that quote up on Google and could not find the exact quote. I don't like misquotes but even if Mark Twain did not say it; it is still a good quote and a good idea. Still, it is not enough. The reason it is not enough is because so many will eventually determine what they want and know how to reach the goal but don't put in the work required to reach the desired result.

The bell curve is well in every measurement and the old 80-20 rule is alive and well; 20% of the sales people get 80% of the business. Back to the bell curve; I observe out of 100 sales students, perhaps 20 are willing to do the assigned class work and perhaps 5 are willing to do the class work with enthusiasm.

Back to the problem. So many never determine exactly what it is they want. In October, 2007 I spent time in Hawaii and it took me more than two weeks to set my 2008 goals. It can take a lot of time and thought to really decide on your goals. Now, the second part. Twain says, "I will tell you how to get it." We have thousands of self help books and hundreds of excellent motivational guru's who are giving us good ideas of how to get it, once we determine what it is.

The real problem. Of the 100 who take a sales or motivation class, most continue to take class after class. They are hooked on classes. They are hooked on sitting in a class but they are not hooked on their own success. Fifteen of the hundred will try some of the ideas some of the time and improve a little each time. The five percent will listen, will apply the ideas and will work until they have reached their goal. Teachers are always excited when they find this 5% population.

In truth, most sales people never have to take another sales or motivational class. They only need to do the work but that is not glamorous. Want to really succeed? Then take the time to determine your true goals and make the commitment to do all of the work that is required to reach that goal.

If you are willing to do the work required, you will succeed.

Everything is an Affirmation

Occasionally I overhear someone say, "Affirmations don't work." Of course, they work. Think about the statement that affirmations don't work. That in itself is an affirmation.

What the person probably meant is that a goal was set and was not achieved through affirmations. The problem is that every thought produces effects at some level and that we do not guard our thoughts closely enough. I have read that we think 50,000-70,000 thoughts a day. If we think 100 positive affirmations and then go through our day with 20,000 negative thoughts and feelings, then, our results are going to be negative.

Imagine a glass 3/4 filled with clear water. Then we start adding food colors to the water. After a while we will have added so many colors that the clear water will become very dark.

All affirmations are not equal. On a calm Monday morning an assistant came to me and stated that the bank had just called and we were $20,000 overdrawn. That was a Tornado affirmation. My solar plexus immediately felt the impact and an impact was made on my subconscious and conscious mind.

Sometimes we will write out the affirmations and really not even think much about them. This would be a light rain affirmation; it really may not have much impact. Therefore you may need to write thousands of light rain affirmations to make an impression on your subconscious mind.

I said that the problem is that all thoughts produce at some level and all thoughts have results. This is also the solution. By knowing that all thoughts produce then our job is to protect and guide our thoughts; not be guided by them.

How do you know when you have done enough positive affirmations? When you are getting the results that you want. The proof is always in the pudding.

Doug Jones www.salesmagic.biz

Some thoughts to ponder

Our brain and nervous system cannot tell the difference between a 'real' experience and one which is vividly imagined. Maxwell Maltz

It is a well known fact that one comes, finally , to believe whatever one repeats to one's self, whether the statement be true or false, Napoleon Hill

The subconscious acts first on the dominating desires, which have been mixed with emotional feeling such as faith. Napoleon Hill

Repetition is the main rule in making suggestions work. Leslie LeCron (Clinical Psychologist)

The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind. William James, Father of American Psychology

I was 52 years old. I had diabetes and incipient arthritis. I had lost my gall bladder and most of my thyroid gland in earlier campaigns. But I was convinced the best was ahead of me.
Ray Kroc, founder of McDonalds

If a visual image can be formed and added to a verbal suggestion, it will make the suggestion more potent. The visual image should always represent the result desired. Leslie LeCron
